Type ONe

INSTIncTS

The Enneagram Type 1, also known as "The Perfectionist" or "The Reformer," has three instincts that influence their behavior and decision-making: self-preservation, social, and one-to-one.

  1. Self-Preservation Instinct: Type 1s with this instinct are focused on ensuring their own safety, security, and well-being. They tend to be practical and conscientious, and they may be cautious or reserved in new or unfamiliar situations. They prioritize taking care of their physical needs, such as food, shelter, and health, and they may be drawn to careers that offer stability and security.

  2. Social Instinct: Type 1s with this instinct are focused on building and maintaining relationships with others. They are often outgoing and friendly, and they may be highly attuned to social cues and dynamics. They prioritize social connection and may be drawn to careers that involve teamwork, collaboration, or social interaction.

  3. One-to-One Instinct: Type 1s with this instinct are focused on building and maintaining close, intimate relationships with others. They tend to be highly attuned to the needs and emotions of others, and they may be drawn to careers that involve one-on-one interactions, such as counseling, coaching, or therapy.

While all Type 1s share a desire for perfection and a sense of responsibility and duty, their instincts can shape how they express these traits in different contexts. Type 1s with a strong self-preservation instinct may be more focused on ensuring things are done correctly and following rules and regulations, while those with a strong social instinct may be more focused on building consensus and promoting fairness and justice. Type 1s with a strong one-to-one instinct may be more focused on helping individuals achieve their full potential and working closely with them to solve problems.
