Type ONe
STRESS
In stress, type one (the Perfectionist) tends to become more critical of themselves and others, and may become rigid and inflexible in their beliefs and behaviors. They may feel overwhelmed by their inner critic and feel like they can never meet their own high standards. They may also become excessively judgmental of others and feel frustrated when others don't meet their expectations.
As they become more stressed, type ones may become more anxious and uptight, and may struggle to relax or have fun. They may feel like they need to be constantly busy or productive to avoid facing their anxieties and fears. They may also become more rigid and dogmatic in their thinking, and may have difficulty considering other perspectives or ideas.
In extreme stress, type ones may experience a sense of inner turmoil and conflict, and may become overly self-critical and perfectionistic. They may become obsessive about their mistakes and shortcomings, and may feel like they are never good enough. They may also become more irritable and critical of others, and may struggle to find joy or meaning in their lives.
This is a description of how the enneagram type 1 may experience stress at each of the nine levels:
At Level 1, when they feel secure and in control of their environment, Ones may experience stress when they encounter unexpected chaos or disorder. They may become anxious and feel the need to restore order and structure.
At Level 2, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their high standards and principles are being threatened or questioned. They may become rigid and inflexible in their beliefs and behaviors, unwilling to compromise or adapt.
At Level 3, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their efforts to improve themselves or their environment are not being recognized or appreciated. They may become resentful and critical of others who they perceive as not putting in enough effort.
At Level 4, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their inner critic is overwhelming them with self-doubt and self-criticism. They may become perfectionistic and rigid in their expectations of themselves and others.
At Level 5, Ones may experience stress when they feel that they are not living up to their own standards or when they are not able to control their environment. They may become anxious and judgmental of themselves and others.
At Level 6, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their sense of responsibility is overwhelming them and they are unable to keep up with their duties. They may become anxious and overworked, unable to relax or take time for themselves.
At Level 7, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their efforts to maintain control and order are not working. They may become reactive and angry, lashing out at others who they perceive as not following their rules or expectations.
At Level 8, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their sense of moral responsibility is being violated or that they are being forced to compromise their principles. They may become confrontational and rigid in their beliefs, unwilling to consider other perspectives.
At Level 9, Ones may experience stress when they feel that their efforts to maintain their sense of order and structure are futile. They may become resigned and apathetic, withdrawing from their responsibilities and avoiding conflict.
