Type four

HOW THEY MANIPULATE

It is important to note that all Enneagram types are capable of both healthy and unhealthy behavior, and manipulative behavior is not limited to Type 4. However, Type 4, also known as the Individualist or the Romantic, has a tendency to manipulate others in order to get their emotional needs met.

One way that Type 4s may manipulate others is by playing the victim. They may exaggerate or fabricate negative experiences in order to gain sympathy or attention from others. This can involve dwelling on past hurts or disappointments, or creating drama or conflict in their relationships in order to elicit a certain emotional response.

Another way that Type 4s may manipulate others is by withholding their emotions. They may use their emotional intensity as a way to control others, creating a sense of tension or unease until the other person gives in to their demands. They may also withhold their emotions as a way of punishing others or making them feel guilty for not being able to meet their emotional needs.

Type 4s may also manipulate others by using their creativity and imagination to create a certain image or atmosphere. They may use their artistic talents to create a certain aesthetic or vibe, which can create a sense of emotional manipulation in others.

It is important to note that these manipulative behaviors are not necessarily conscious or malicious on the part of the Type 4. They may stem from a deep-seated need for emotional connection and validation, and a fear of being misunderstood or rejected. However, it is important for Type 4s to be aware of these tendencies and work to develop healthier ways of getting their emotional needs met without manipulating others. This can involve learning to communicate their emotions in a more direct and honest way, and developing a stronger sense of self-worth and self-validation.
