Type four

Vice

In Enneagram theory, the vice of Type 4, also known as the Individualist or the Romantic, is often described as envy. Type 4s may be highly attuned to their own emotions and desires, and may struggle with feelings of inadequacy or longing.

Type 4s may be prone to comparing themselves to others, and may feel envious of those who they perceive as having qualities or experiences that they lack. They may be highly sensitive to rejection or criticism, and may struggle with feelings of worthlessness or self-doubt. Type 4s may also be prone to withdrawing or isolating themselves from others, as a way to protect themselves from potential rejection or disappointment.

The vice of envy can manifest in a variety of ways for Type 4s, such as becoming overly focused on their own unique qualities or experiences, feeling misunderstood or unappreciated by others, or becoming preoccupied with seeking out new experiences or relationships as a way to fulfill their own longing. While Type 4s may value their own creativity and individuality, their preoccupation with envy and longing can also lead to a lack of connection or engagement in their own lives and relationships.

It is important for Type 4s to recognize and address their tendencies towards envy, and to cultivate a greater sense of self-acceptance and appreciation for their own unique qualities and experiences. This may involve learning to recognize and challenge their own inner critic, practicing self-validation and acceptance, and developing a more grounded and present approach to their own experiences and relationships. By embracing a more self-assured and confident approach to their lives, Type 4s can overcome their tendency towards envy and achieve greater fulfillment and satisfaction.
